Group Therapy

At Royal Life Centers, guests participate in group therapy in conjunction with other forms of therapy. One or more of our addiction therapists facilitate group therapy and all guests must participate. Guests sit in a circle so they properly address each other. This design encourages socialization and consequently, emphasizes the commonalities of substance use disorders. It is important for guests to see that they are not alone in overcoming addiction.

With the support from their peers, guests are able to open up and share about troubling experiences or emotions and receive input on how best to cope. Evidently, discussing shared experiences can bring guests together, and mature the healing process. Our aim is for guests to generate a support network within their own community. Indeed, having a strong sober network is an integral part of recovery.

Group Therapy at Royal Life Centers

Group therapy typically runs one hour long and is led as an open discussion. Topics covered include relapse prevention, goal-setting, emotional well-being, self-discovery, and development of self-worth. All topics discussed pertain to important life skills necessary for healthy living and sobriety. In detox and residential treatment, guests’ schedules are full to keep them busy. For this reason, guests must participate in various groups for five hours every day. If and when guests graduate to the PHP level, group attendance is six hours per day, six days per week. At the IOP level, the first three weeks require that they devote three hours per day to group therapy, five days per week. The latter three weeks requires group participation three hours per day, three days out of the week. After that point, guests work with their therapist to determine how often they need to attend a group, if at all.
