Therapies

At Royal Life Centers, we take a holistic approach to therapy to target mind, body and soul using a biopsychosocial/spiritual model. Substance dependence is not merely physical; therefore, it is crucial that we focus on the mental and spiritual aspects, as well, to treat our guests from the inside, out. Our customized treatment plans offer guests the opportunity to engage with their peers and environment in new ways, with adventure, activity, and equine therapy. More traditional forms of therapy, such as individual and group therapy, are staples in our program that allow guests to develop necessary life skills to sustain long-term sobriety. Because We Care.

About Our Therapies

Shortly after arriving, guests are assigned a primary therapist whom they will work with closely throughout the duration of their stay. In their first meeting together, the therapist will have the guest complete a thorough biopsychosocial and spiritual assessment that will not only help the therapist get to know the guest better, but also will allow them to take a more informed approach to devising their Individual Service Plan or ISP. The ISP is a treatment plan that is tailored to the guest’s particular needs and circumstances. As a pair, the guest and their therapist, work on identifying healthy coping strategies that the guest can implement in day-to-day life to better manage stress and negative emotions. Our addiction therapists utilize various therapeutic practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which is aimed at changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors. We find that certain modes of thinking and behaviors contribute to the cycle of substance abuse. The typical CBT model demonstrates that a person will have thoughts, negative or positive (that they may not even be conscious of), that result in them feeling sad, happy, etc; and that feeling often leads to a behavior. The goal of CBT is to identify and analyze the thoughts that often lead to self-destructive behavior (i.e. substance abuse, self-harm, etc.), and re-train the mind to think more positively and in a manner that is supportive of the person’s wellbeing and positive self-image. In doing so, individuals are better able to calm the mind and body. CBT is used to treat a variety of mental disorders in addition to substance use disorders, such as depression and anxiety. We require guests to participate in group therapy, in addition to individual therapy. Facilitated by one or more of our addiction therapists, group therapy, focuses on topics, such as relapse prevention, goal-setting, self-discovery, and emotional regulation. Along with the typical setting for group therapy, we also offer unconventional forms of group therapy as well, including activity, adventure, and equine therapy. Guests can participate in activities like yoga, kayaking and rope courses. Being active and spending time outdoors has remarkable effects on mood and spirit. These alternative forms of therapy also guests strengthen their self-awareness through team-building exercises. At Royal Life Centers, we strive to provide the tools necessary for our guests to lead healthy, happy lives. All of the therapeutic practices that are offered at our facilities help make that happen.
